When you think of HPI you might think of a specific type of car they make but in fact they make a ton of different types of cars, trucks, buggys, and more. This is a top 10 list of the best HPI RC car options; essentially an ultimate RC guide to the HPI brand.
HPI is well known for their ready for anything pre-built kits that get you into the hobby, and action ASAP.
Best HPI RC Car Reviews
Getting into reviews of the best HPI cars out there, let’s break it down by category.
Best HPI RC Drift Car
Since HPI is really into making quality drift cars, I’m going to give you two options from them. The best beginner drift car from HPI would be the RTR E10. Coming in at around $200 this car is perfect for the beginner who wants to start drifting with HPI cars. It comes ready to drift out of the box and you really can’t go wrong with the power, drift-ability, modability, and overall robustness of this model.
For the next-level drifter looking for an HPI product I would look into the Sprint 2 drift series. This is a more durable option than the E10, with waterproof parts, longer receiver range, upgraded chassis and parts, and a more powerful motor. This would be my top recommendation for the best HPI drift car out there right now that’s battery powered.
For more information on drifting HPI made an excellent intro guide to drifting in general, and their cars that are usable for drifting.
Best HPI RC Truck
When thinking of the best HPI truck, the Savage XL Flux comes to mind… It’s not cheap but I don’t expect the best of the best to be inexpensive per se. This truck is available in battery or gas powered versions. This 4×4 is shaft driven, has an aluminum chassis, and is ready to rocky any terrain you can throw at it. The price range between the electric and gas models are quite steep (around $400 vs $1000 so be sure you want the gas application before purchasing.
Best HPI RC Race Car
The Nitro RS4 RTR 3 Evo+ is the fastest HPI car out there right now, so it’s of course going to receive the award for the best HPI race car out there. This thing gets up to 80km/h so it’s close to competing with the Traxxas XO.
This car comes ready to race out of the box, but I would recommend checking the torque on all drive train fasteners and upgrading the tires as the first modifications to make.
Best HPI Truggy
The Trophy Flux Truggy is here to stay and if you haven’t heard of it already then you’re in for a treat. With both a nitro and LiPo version available this Truggy has it all. You want a truggy to deliver speed, control, all-wheel action, and the Trophy Flux does not disappoint. Shred the trails, tracks, jumps and more right off the block with the Trophy Flux.
All you need to do is add two LiPo batteries to the electric version and you’ll be on the road with this kit.
Best HPI Buggy
HPI…Buggy…. The Trophy 3.5 of course! This is a budget friendly RTR (ready to race) HPI buggy that kicks ass in the backyard, and on the trails or track. If you’re an off-road racer you’ll enjoy the quality of the materials, the engine performance, suspension, and how easy and available modding this model is.
My only recommendation is upgrading the servo to appreciate the full torque of the engine.
Best HPI RC Car Conlusion
It’s really tough to break down the best RC vehicles made by HPI in such a small article – I may update this in the future to keep it up to date and add new up and comers. You really can’t go wrong choosing an HPI vehicle as I think they have some of the best modability and customer support – not to mention aftermarket part availability. Hopefully this guide helps you pick the best HPI RC car for your needs whether you want to bash, crash, race, drift, or do it all.
Obviously no RC car or brand is one size fits all, so if you’re interested in checking out other RC brands check out our break down of the top RC brands this year here.
